Please bear in mind however, that a large part of our business is reliant on manufacturing turnaround times and offshore shipping. History
The company is a 22 year old business and was founded by father and son team Dave and Paul Kahanovitz.
Both were experienced in their fields of medical service, namely medical gases (Air Liquide) and medical rescue (St Johns Ambulance).
The business was built on expertise, client service and the philosophy of ‘continuous improvement’.
Today, this desire to constantly improve and grow is an integral part of the Medicare culture. The legacy that Paul and Dave built continues to define the brand that is now firmly established in the South African and African Medical supply chain
The Company
The Mines Benefit Hospital or MBS in central Johannesburg was our first ever client. Medicare sourced the product they required and supplied it quickly and at reasonable expense. The then Clinic Holdings (Netcare ) approached us and we established a contract for supply to some 50 hospitals. From then on other medical equipment/service users such as provincial hospitals, old age homes, other medical firms, exports, users on the continent approached us, and the business continued to thrive and grow.
We have over 600m ² of warehousing, showroom and office space in Sandton. Our warehouse is well organized and so orders are completed without delay.
The Mechanics
We have a team of twelve dedicated and passionate people based in the Sandton office who take care of our clients’ needs. This includes quoting on incoming queries, placing orders, and actual deliveries to our clients. We distribute across South Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. We have partnerships in Malawi, Botswana, DRC, Niger, Tunisia and Swaziland. We have achieved business in these countries and liase and communicate through direct mail, marketing and visits.
We employ black and white, male and female consultants as part of our strategy to adapt to a truly South African broad based business model. Our sales and support staff are in touch with management and stores on a daily basis and so are kept up to date on outstanding orders and areas of concern. We constantly strive to keep our staff aware of new techniques, technologies which may help them to understanding the product and the client better. The sales team have recently attended the Medica Tradefair in Dusseldorf to broaden our understanding of the industry, and to meet up with some of our loyal offshore distributors. Hilmari and Nirvana are also excited to have attended specific product training on our Metro range in Dubai in November.
Medicare has a traditional approach to service and sales. Assist the buyer/user with their decision through discussion and needs analyses. This way the buyer orders what he or she wants and the correct items are supplied. We recognize that change and the need for continuous improvement are constants: as a company, we have an open mind and an inventive spirit. This is seen in our constant striving for new and innovative products. Close contact with the end-user brings their experience into play and optimizes the potentiality of these new products.
